Company History
September 29th, 1915. William F. O’Neil, „W.O.“ and Winfred E. Fouse, found the General Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio.

General Tire was founded in 1915 in Akron, Ohio, by William F. O'Neil. The company later diversified into a conglomerate, with holdings in tires, rubber compounds, rocketry and aeronautics, entertainment and news, and real estate.

 

Today, the tire and rubber division is owned by Germany's Continental, and the conglomerate is focused on real estate and rocketry. The other divisions have been sold or spun off.

General Tire develops rubber flaps for truck tires.

Fabric production & subsidiary

Nygen and fabric production. The first international subsidiary is founded in Mexico.

New production facility

GT began production in its 2nd U.S. facility in Waco, Texas; production phased out in 1986.

GT opens its 6th plant

General Tire opens its 6th plant, equipped for full radial tire production, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Continental acquires GT

Continental Tire North America, Inc. finalises the acquisition of General Tire, Inc.
